Following is a list of books, articles and links to on-line literature and software concerning cluster analysis:
Books and Journals
Clustering Algorithms (1975) by J. Hartigan is a classic textbook treatment of cluster analysis.
Finding Groups In Data: An Introduction to Cluster Analysis (1990) by L. Kauffman and P. Rousseeuw is another
important (more recent) text book that discusses the main approaches to clustering and provides and excellent
overview of partitioning methods and hierarchical techniques.
Discriminant Analysis and Clustering: Panel on Discriminant Analysis, Classification, and Clustering. Statistical
Science, Volume 4 Issue 1 (Feb. 1989) – Provides a summary of the state-of-the-art in discriminant analysis and
clustering and identifies key research and unsolved problems that need to be addressed in these two areas.
Analyzing Clustering Effects Across Time by D. Dunn and J. Landwehr. Journal of the American Statistical
Association, Volume 75, Issue 369 (Mar. 1980) – Discussion on several graphical statistical methods that focus on
changes in cluster characteristics across two successive time periods.
